The purpose of this policy is to outline the processes to be followed when implementing the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The RPL policy is purposed to:

  • Assess the competencies (skills and knowledge) that a candidate may have in place enabling him/her to hold a workplace position or occupancy despite not meeting the formal qualification requirements of that occupancy or workplace position;
  • assess the competencies (skills and knowledge) that a candidate may have in place enabling him/her to enter into a learning programme at a NQF level higher than the qualification already obtained by the candidate, i.e. Public Administration Certificate NQF Level;
  • assess the competencies (skills and knowledge) that a candidate may have in place so that he/she may be awarded credits for any part of a learning programme that he/she is to enter at the institution;
  • assess the competencies (skills and knowledge) that a candidate may have in place so that he/she may obtain course exemption for credits obtained from another institution.
